Joellen Schwallie, joins us to talk about her book Glimpsing Through Threads. Following the discussion, there will be a time for Q&A with the audience and book signing. We look forward to seeing you there!

About the book:

Wrapped in humor, drama, and supernatural intrigue, Joellen B. Schwallie’s debut novel, Glimpsing Through Threads, is a story of an Irish immigrant family, made rich not through wealth but through memories. It begins in 1855 as their matriarch leaves Ireland following the potato famine to move to the United States. Opinions, expressions, and language change and evolve with time as the family grows and ages into the 1970s. As the pages turn, the reader is invited to travel alongside them while they make their way through a number of noteworthy days. Personal memories, superstitious beliefs, and accounts of current events of that time in history are brought into the narrative as the story follows each generation’s threads and how they connect to each. Are they caught within the confinement of their own time? Or is the essence of their being somehow connected to those who came before and those who are yet to come?

About the author:

Introducing Joellen B. Schwallie, mother, grandmother, wife, Registered Nurse, and now the author of her debut novel, “Glimpsing Through Threads.” Living, learning, and growing through all of these roles filled her life with a mixture of blessings, lessons and gratitude. It also fostered a curiosity, prompting her to wonder how her own life experiences may have mingled with those of her Irish ancestors. This motivated her to sift through her memories and thoughts, resulting in the creation of a tale ripe with embellishment, half-truths, drama and fun. Thoughts about old family stories that were inspirational and mysterious yet not necessarily accurate and quite possibly, not even true. But fabrication can be a beautiful thing, especially after one retires and actually has time to indulge in it. And so it was, that her new career began, delayed, perhaps, but definitely worth the wait. Because anything fun and rewarding is worth its weight in gold, whether that be at the end of a rainbow, or at the tip of a pen.
